City of Tucson Bus Shelter

Challenge: City officials decided to use money from a recent federal transportation grant to place bus shelters at stops along some of the most used routes througout the city. One of the strict guidelines for the grant was that all materials used in transportation projects must be made in the US.

Solution: At the time, the price of American steel was much higher than steel from China or Canada, so many manufacturers could not keep their costs within the city's budget. However, with the State's purchasing power and the great relationships that the ACI Metal Shop team has with their local suppliers, all the needed steel was obtained. The Metal shop built benches and trash receptacles in each shelter location. ACI was able to build and deliver the bus shelters on time and on budget.
